February 5, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release
Taylor Fedun had a goal and an assist while Martin Gernat, Roman Horak and Steve Pinizzotto each contributed two assists in the Oklahoma City Barons' 5-2 win over the Texas Stars on Tuesday at Cedar Park Center outside Austin, Texas.
The Barons, 19-22-1-5, sweep a two-game set from the Stars, who have dropped four of their last five to fall to 28-15-2-3. Oklahoma City has matched its season-high winning streak by taking its last three games. Tuesday's victory gives the Barons consecutive road wins for the first time this season as their record away from home improves to 7-13-0-4.
The Barons never trailed in the two-game series at Texas and both goals in Tuesday's first period. Mark Arcobello, just loaned to the Barons on Saturday, slipped a backhander past Texas goaltender Josh Robinson at 4:28, assisted by Steve Pinizzotto and Roman Horak.
Fedun gave the Barons a 2-0 lead on the power play at 9:20 when his shot from the point beat Robinson on the glove side, with assists from Pinizzotto and Martin Gernat.
The teams traded goals in the second period. Jamie Oleksiak fired a point shot past Richard Bachman at 5:03 to make the score 2-1. Texas out-shot the Oklahoma City in the second period 19-11, but the Barons scored with 49.5 seconds left to take a 3-1 lead into the second intermission. Jack Combs converted on a Martin Gernat centering pass to finish a 3-on-1. Fedun earned the second assist.
Travis Morin, the AHL's leading point scorer, tallied his 27th goal of the season 29 seconds into the third period to shave the Barons' lead to 3-2 and move into a tie with teammate Colton Sceviour for the league lead in goals. Anton Lander gave the Barons some insurance with a power-play goal at 15:34, from Brad Hunt and Roman Horak.
Ben Eager completed the scoring with an empty-net goal at 19:47 from Will Acton.
Bachman stopped 35 shots to improve to 11-12-2. Robinson made 27 saves in falling to 5-5-0. The Barons went 2-for-5 on the power play (4-for-8 in the series) while killing off all four times short in each game at Texas, which has the league's top power play.
The Barons' next game is Friday at 6:30 pm CST against the Charlotte Checkers at Time Warner Cable Arena.
