MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN - Hamilton Bulldogs defenceman Greg Pateryn notched a goal and an assist and goaltender Robert Mayer made 24 saves, but the 'Dogs couldn't hold on and ultimately fell to the Milwaukee Admirals 4-2 on Wednesday evening at BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
On the first power play of the night just over four minutes into the game, Pateryn hammered home his ninth goal of the season with a booming slap shot, assisted by forwards Maxime Macenauer and Martin St. Pierre.
Admirals forward Mark Van Guilder replied at 9:45 of the first period, with assists from forward Joonas Rask and defenceman Joonas Jarvinen.
Milwaukee gained a 2-1 lead at 14:44 of the second period when forward Austin Watson snapped a shot low glove side on Mayer on a breakaway opportunity. Defencemen Anthony Bitetto and Charles-Olivier Roussel earned assists on the play.
Bulldogs forward Gabriel Dumont notched his team co-leading 10th goal of the season less than five minutes into the third period to tie the game 2-2, assisted by Pateryn and forward Mike Blunden.
Roussel put the Admirals ahead again 3-2 with a one-timer from the point on the power play at 10:30 of the third period, assisted by forwards Miikka Salomaki and Filip Forsberg.
With 13 seconds to play, a clearing attempt by Milwaukee forward Colton Sissons landed in the Bulldogs' empty net to make it a 4-2 game. Defenceman Joe Piskula picked up an assist on the insurance goal.
Mayer made 24 saves on 27 shots in the Bulldogs net in the loss. Marek Mazanec made 28 saves on 30 shots for the Admirals in the win.
The Bulldogs went 1-for-6 on the power play, while the Admirals went 1-for-5.
