St. John's IceCaps News Release

ST. JOHN'S, NL - Kael Mouillierat scored the game-winning goal in the shootout and Paul Postma notched his first tally of the season along with an assist, as the St. John's IceCaps beat the Providence Bruins 4-3 Wednesday night at Mile One Centre.

Adam Lowry and Andrew Gordon had the other goals for St. John's in regulation, while Jason Jaffray also scored in the shootout. Eddie Pasquale stopped 30-of-33 in regulation to post the victory, on top of kicking aside all four shots he faced in the shootout.

Nick Johnson, Alexander Khokhlachev, and Tyler Randell picked up the tallies for the Bruins, and Malcolm Subban made 29 saves in the loss.

With the two clubs playing four-on-four, Johnson opened the scoring at 8:18 of the first period. Charging into the IceCaps' zone on the rush, Khokhlachev fed the puck to Johnson who made no mistake in one-timing it short side and into the bottom corner.

The IceCaps evened the score at a goal apiece with less than two minutes remaining in the opening frame, however, on a goal from Lowry. After Blair Riley launched a slap shot from the high slot, Lowry - parked in front of the goal - redirected it top shelf over the blocker of Subban.

In the second period, Gordon put the IceCaps ahead by one on the man advantage at 3:44. Making a heads-up play to redirect Postma's shot from the point, Gordon's tip found its way into the bottom corner to make it 2-1.

Providence answered with a goal of its own once again at 14:16, however, when Khokhlachev - rushing in on goal from the outside - wristed a tight-angle shot that squeaked through the legs of Pasquale to tie things up at two.

With less than two minutes left in the second, Postma netted his first goal of the season to send St. John's to the dressing room with the lead. Wheeling into the Bruins' zone, Postma fired a shot on goal from the corner that handcuffed Subban to make it 3-2.

The Bruins evened the score for the second time at 6:32 of the final frame, when Randell - busting into the IceCaps' zone shorthanded - won the battle for the loose puck and deked to the backhand before firing it over the blocker of Pasquale to make it 3-3.

After a scoreless overtime, Mouillierat notched the game-winner in the shootout when he dashed in on goal, took it backhand-forehand, and fired it past Subban to give St. John's the victory.
