Carolina Mudcats News Release
Birmingham, AL --- Ricky Brooks matched his career high with eight strikeouts over five innings to lead the Birmingham Barons past the Carolina Mudcats 8-0 at Regions Park on Thursday night.
The Mudcats, who were blanked for the second straight game, managed seven hits against four Barons pitchers. Jake Kahaulelio and Felix Perez had a pair of singles for the Mudcats, who lost their final road game of the regular season. Carolina claimed the season-series with the Barons 6-5.
Birmingham scored three times in the first inning, primarily thanks to a two-run double by Christian Marrero. Daryl Thomspon (L, 0-5) worked three innings, allowing three runs in his first start for the Mudcats since being activated from the disabled list.
Lee Tabor allowed a pair of solo homers, with Gilbert De La Vara permitting two runs in the seventh and Justin Freeman yielding a run in the eighth.
The Mudcats return home to conclude the regular season with a four-game series against Tennessee Friday night at 7:15 PM ET.
