Birmingham Barons News Release

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons won their second-straight game at the friendly confines of Regions Field, using a four run 4th inning and a strong start by Spencer Arroyo (1-0, 2.61) to defeat the Mississippi Braves 7-3 in front of 3,649 fans.

After enduring a nearly two-hour rain delay, the Barons broke a scoreless tie in the second inning thanks to a ten pitch at-bat by first baseman Dan Black which culminated in a hustle double. Black advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a two-out RBI single up the middle by catcher Miguel Gonzalez.

The lead would balloon to 5-0 in the fourth on RBI singles by Black and Tyler Saladino. Gonzalez would cap the inning with a two-run double, scoring both Black and Saladino.

Following a three-run sixth by the M-Braves, OF Trayce Thompson put any thoughts of a comeback to bed with a booming two-run homer into the Mississippi bullpen to give the Barons a 7-3 advantage. The home run was Thompson's team-leading second of the season.

Barons starter Spencer Arroyo picked up his first win of the season allowing two runs on three hits over 5.1 innings. The Barons allowed just three hits on the night as Jacob Petricka and Ryan Kussmaul followed Arroyo's lead with 3.2 innings of solid relief. M-Braves starter J.R. Graham (0-1, 5.40) took the loss allowing four runs on five hits over just 3.0 IP.

With the win, the Barons improve to 4-3 and 2-0 at Regions Field while the Braves fall to 3-4.

The Barons will be looking for a series victory as the two teams square off Friday night. RHP Erik Johnson (0- 0, 1.93) takes the hill against Alex Wood (0-0, 0.00). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
