Mississippi Braves News Release

Birmingham, AL - For the second straight night, the Birmingham Barons' offense proved to be too much for the Mississippi Braves at Regions Field as they took game two of the series 7-3 on Thursday.

In a game that was delayed by nearly two hours, the Barons seemed unaffected by the rain. They plated a run in the second on a Miguel Gonzalez two-out RBI single, then four more in the fourth chasing starter JR Graham after three innings.

Graham (0-1) took the loss, giving up four runs on five hits in three innings of work. Barons' starter Spencer Arroyo (1-0) earned the win, allowing just two runs on three hits over 5.1 innings.

The 5-0 lead was all Birmingham needed, but the Braves didn't go down without a fight, putting a three-spot on the board in the sixth thanks to a two-run home run by Christian Bethancourt, his first. Jose Martinez also hit an RBI double in the inning, his second.

But the Barons answered right back. An error by Martinez allowed Marcus Semien to reach with one out in the bottom of the sixth. A batter later, Trayce Thompson hit a ball 420 feet into the Braves bullpen, his second home run of the season, to put the Barons up 7-3.

Gonzalez finished the day with two hits while driving in three runs for Birmingham.

Edward Salcedo had a single in the fourth, extending his team-high hit streak to six games.

Mississippi looks for their first win of the series on Friday night at 7:05 as they send left-hander Alex Wood (0-0, 0.00) to the hill against right-hander Erik Johnson (0-0, 1.93).
