Pensacola Blue Wahoos News Release

Pensacola pitching held Mobile scoreless through the first 12 innings in Thursday's doubleheader, but had to settle for a split, winning the first game 1-0 before falling in walk-off fashion in the nightcap 2-1 at Hank Aaron Stadium.

In game one, the Wahoos won their third one-run contest of the season and recorded their first shutout in the process. The lone run came on a fourth-inning infield single from Tucker Barnhart that scored Donald Lutz from third. Pensacola had numerous chances to expand its lead, including a bases-loaded, one-out situation in the fourth that they weren't able to capitalize on.

But Pensacola only needed the one run as Tim Crabbe (1-0) dominated a Mobile lineup that pounded out 16 hits on Wednesday. Crabbe only allowed four balls out of the infield in six two-hit innings. Curtis Partch picked up his second save of the season by striking out the side in the seventh.

Zeke Spruill (0-2) was the tough-luck loser for Mobile, yielding just a run on six hits over five frames.

It looked like the script would be similar in the second game, but the BayBears rallied in their final two at-bats for a 2-1 victory.

The Wahoos took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI single from Travis Mattair scoring Steve Selsky. It stayed that way until the last of the sixth when the BayBears offense woke up from its slumber. A walk, single and error put runners on second and third with nobody out against reliever Drew Hayes, who uncorked a wild pitch, scoring Humberto Cota from third to tie the game. Hayes was able to get out of the jam thanks to a groundout, walk and a double play off the bat of Brent Clevlen.

The Wahoos had a runner on third with one out in the top of the seventh, but Bo Schultz (1-0) struck out Ryan LaMarre and Theo Bowe to escape without further damage.

In the last of the seventh, Mobile loaded the bases with two outs against Lee Hyde (0-2) who yielded a walk-off single to center by Ender Inciarte.

The series continues on Saturday with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch from Hank Aaron Stadium. Chad Rogers (1-0, 3.60) is projected to start after battling flu-like symptoms the last couple days. Anthony Meo (0-0, 9.00) will toe the rubber for Mobile.
