Cleveland Barons News Release

CLEVELAND, OH - Kirby Law scored two goals and added an assist in the third period as Houston skated to a 4-1 victory at Cleveland denying the Barons their third straight win. Nolan Schaefer suffered his first loss in goal for Cleveland since returning from San Jose three contests ago.

The Barons flexed their special teams muscle early scoring the first period's only goal while on the man-advantage. Garrett Stafford powered a slap shot past former Baron Seamus Kotyk, who was making his ninth appearance for his new team in the Houston Aeros. Stafford's goal was the third he has scored this season and was assisted by Patrick Rissmiller and Josh Hennessy. The Barons out-shot Houston 11-8 in the opening frame going 1 for 5 on the power play.

The fifth power play chance of the game for the Barons carried over into the second period and would lead to the period's only goal. Unfortunately it came off the stick of Houston defender Erik Reitz just 23-seconds into the second period to tie the game at 1-1. Neither team was able to capitalize on two power play chances they received during the middle frame and the opening forty minutes closed with the game tied at 1-1. Nolan Shaefer, in his third consecutive start for the Barons, made 11-saves in the second period as Houston out-shot Cleveland 12-10.

Houston exploded with three unanswered goals in the third period skating to a 4-1 lead over the Barons. Kirby Law scored back-to-back goals, one on the power play and one at even strength establishing Houston's first lead of the night. Josh Olson then capped the scoring with Houston's second short-handed tally of the night with eight minutes remaining in regulation time. The Barons failed to secure their third straight win, which would have tied a season high.

Tonight was the first of four consecutive home games for the Barons. Wednesday night the Rochester Americans pay a visit to National City Rink at The Q for a 7 O'clock North Division tilt. Friday night is "Legends Night" with the Barons as the team inducts a new class of honorees into the Cleveland Hockey Legends Ring of Honor. Then on Saturday its another "Barons Kids Day Matinee" game at 1 O'clock with Rochester returning to the Rock ‘N Roll city. Tickets for all three games are available at the Quicken Loans Arena Box Office.
