Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Despite three hits and two RBI from Luis Robert, the Birmingham Barons (21-33) dropped the series finale to the Montgomery Biscuits (32-22) by a 12-7 final Saturday night at Regions Field.

Robert, who collected his 10th multi-hit effort of the season, belted a leadoff triple in the first and later came around to score before he delivered an RBI-single in the fifth. The White Sox No. 2 prospect tallied his third hit of the night? with a line-drive single to center in the seventh.

However, despite Robert's offensive showcase, the Barons fell behind early and could not materialize a comeback. Montgomery scored runs in each of the first five innings behind a trio of home runs. Josh Lowe set the tone with a solo shot to center on the game's first pitch.

Lowe later belted his second long ball of the contest with a two-run blast in the fourth. Brett Sullivan's two-run homer in the fifth extended Montgomery's lead to 8-1 at the time. The Biscuits' 12 runs represented the most the Barons have allowed in a game this season.

Barons starter Kodi Medeiros (L, 0-8) remained winless in a Barons uniform since he joined the club via trade July 26, 2018. The southpaw surrendered six runs (all earned) on five hits and walked three in 3.2 innings of work.

Left-hander Josh Fleming (W, 5-3) earned the win for the Biscuits. He allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings.

Luis Gonzalez and Yermin Mercedes hit consecutive homers in the ninth to draw the Barons closer. They marked the first back-to-back homers for Birmingham since Keon Barnum and Nick Basto did so June 7, 2018 at Jacksonville.

Laz Rivera and Nate Nolan each recorded a pair of hits in the loss.

The Barons will continue their 11-game homestand as they welcome the Jackson Generals to Regions Field for a six-game set at Regions Field. Birmingham right-hander Lincoln Henzman (0-0, 0.00) will make his Double-A debut in the series opener. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. CT and the game will be broadcast via WJOX-AM 690.
