Montgomery Biscuits News Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Biscuits (32-22) remained a perfect 4-0 in rubber matches this season with a 12-7 victory over the Birmingham Barons (21-33) in the series finale on Saturday night at Regions Field in what was the longest game of the year at three hours and 22 minutes.
Josh Lowe started the game off with a bang for the Butter and Blue, hitting a lead-off home run on the first pitch of the night off Barons starter Kodi Medeiros (0-8) to make it 1-0 Biscuits. An RBI-groundout by Luis Gonzalez against Montgomery starter Josh Fleming (5-3) after a lead-off triple by Luis Robert tied things at one in the first, before a Jermaine Palacios' sac fly in the second made it a 2-1 game.
Rene Pinto hit the base of the right-center field wall with an RBI-double in the third, and a Brett Sullivan RBI-groundout in the same inning put the Biscuits up 4-1. An inning later, Lowe was back at it, hammering his second home run of the game-a two-run shot to right-that made it a 6-1 contest. The occasion marked the second multi-home run game for Lowe in 2019, with the first coming back on April 21 at Mississippi.
Before the Barons added two runs off Fleming in the fifth, Brett Sullivan slugged his second home run of the season and made it 8-1 Montgomery. A double steal in the seventh made it a 9-3 game, and the Biscuits would add three more runs in the eighth courtesy of a throwing error by Barons second baseman Ramon Torres, and a pair of bases-loaded walks. The only innings in which the Biscuits didn't score on Saturday night were the sixth and the ninth.
The Biscuits also executed their second triple play, both this season and in team history, when an infield fly rule with the bases loaded caused all kinds of confusion for Barons' baserunners. And despite being outhit, 15-12, the Biscuits' 12 runs were the most the team has scored in any game this season.
Montgomery is still in first place in the First Half North Division by a game over the Jackson Generals with 16 games to go, and will welcome the Tennessee Smokies to town for a five-game series on Sunday, with the Biscuits Bullpen set to square off against Oscar De La Cruz (3-2) at 5:05 PM CT when there will be a Lil' Crumbs Dress Like a Player Jersey Giveaway at Riverwalk Stadium.
The series will also include Alabama Agriculture Night on Tuesday, June 4; A Trucker Hat Giveaway presented by U.S. Air Force on Wednesday, June 5; and 80's Night featuring a T-Shirt Giveaway presented by Gipson's Tire Pros on Thursday, June 6.
