Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Lookouts led throughout Monday's contest, but the Barons exploded in the top of the ninth to take the lead and the 6-5 win at AT&T Field. Chattanooga entered the scoreboard in the first. James Tomlin led off with a double and eventually made his way home on an Andrew Lambo. The Lookouts extended their lead to 2-0 in the second, when Vinny Rottino doubled and crossed the plate after a wild pitch and Juan Gonzalez sacrifice fly to center. A Josh Shelpy III solo shot in the third put the Barons on the board. Another run, however, was manufactured by the Lookouts in the fourth. Eddy Perez led off with a single and advanced to third on a subsequent Rottino double. Russ Mitchell then had an RBI ground out to plate Perez. Birmingham inched closer in the fifth with another run on a Rob Hudson RBI sacrifice fly, but a Trayvon Robinson solo shot in the bottom portion of the inning gave the Lookouts a 4-2 advantage.
Robinson struck again the eighth with another homer of the solo variety to augment the Lookouts' lead, 5-2. In the ninth, Birmingham showed why they were the most dominant team in the Southern League in 2009 by scoring four runs, highlighted by a Jared Price solo shot and C.J. Retherford two-run homer. Harvey Garcia (0-1) surrendered the game-winning homer to Retherford to take the loss. John Lujan (3-5), who entered the game in the eighth with one out, finished the ninth to preserve the 6-5 win for the Barons.
