Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Matching the Birmingham Barons (55-60) swing for swing, the Montgomery Biscuits (64-52) got a late blast then held on for a 10-7 win on Thursday night at Riverwalk Stadium. The win is Montgomery's second in a row to start the series and drops the Barons to 4.5 games out of first place in the North Division standings.

Turning Point: The game that began as an offensive showdown ended as a bullpen battle, with the Biscuits getting the decisive blow in the bottom of the seventh. After Nick Solak drew a two-out walk off Birmingham reliever Matt Foster (L, 0-4), Michael Brosseau hit a two-run homer to center, giving Montgomery a 9-7 lead.

By The Numbers: The late hit was one of many clutch hits for the Biscuits on the night, as the home team scored nine of their 10 runs with two outs to earn the win while going 6-for-10 at the plate with runners in scoring position. The damage began early against Birmingham starter Matt Tomshaw, who gave up four runs in the first and lasted just 4.0 innings, giving up seven earned runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts. But the offense kept him from getting the loss.

Moments That Mattered: Birmingham began the slugfest by taking an early 3-0 lead behind an RBI double from Trey Michalczewski and a two-run home run from Alex Call. Danny Mendick's solo home run tied it an inning later, and Alfredo Gonzalez's two-run homer re-tied the game in the fourth. Call's second home run of the night evened the game at 7-7 in the fifth, but that would be it for the Birmingham offense.

Facts And Figures: The four home runs tied a Barons single-game high for this season while Call recorded the sixth multi-homer game by a Baron this season. However, the Barons left six runners on base while finishing just 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Up Next: The North Division rivals continue the series with a 6:35 p.m. matchup on Friday night. Dylan Cease (2-0, 1.99) is set to start for the Barons against the Biscuits' Blake Bivens (0-0, 5.40). Curt Bloom will have the call on 960 WERC News Radio and the iHeart Radio app.
