January 14, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release

Oklahoma City - The second session of the Oklahoma City Barons program with Special Olympics called "Barons Buddies" takes place Wednesday, January 15 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Red Pin bowling alley in Bricktown.

The Barons Buddies program allows a family involved with Special Olympics Oklahoma to be "adopted" by a player on the Barons roster. The first session of the program was earlier in the season when the players hosted the Special Olympics athletes at the Cox Convention Center. The athletes and their families received a tour of the locker room as well as played games with the Barons players.

In addition to participating in the three events during the season, the families are invited to the Barons home game February 28 against the Rockford IceHogs when the team will once again wear one-of-a-kind jerseys that are available for bids in a live auction following that game.

Last season, the Barons and Special Olympics created memories for 20 athletes and their families and raised over $25,000 in the process via the team wearing and auctioning one-of-a-kind jerseys.

The Barons are in the midst of a seven-game homestand. This weekend the Barons skate in three games. Friday is Barons Night when the host the Rochester Americans at 7 p.m. Friday night means $1 hot dogs and $2 draft beers from 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday, the Barons are giving away another car in the Drive Away Every Saturday promotion. One lucky fan wins a Jeep Cherokee Sport. Also, the first 2,000 fans through the doors receive a bobblehead of Barons head coach Todd Nelson.

The weekend concludes with a game Sunday at 4 p.m. Barons fans can enjoy $1 soft drinks and $1 hot dogs from 3 - 5 p.m. Following the game, fans can skate with the team. Skate rental is provided at no charge by the Barons.
