
Barons break day game doldrums

BIRMINGHAM, AL â After starting the season 1-7 in day games, the Birmingham Barons beat the Chattanooga Lookouts 6-2 in front of 6,560 fans at the Hoover Met on Monday afternoon to win their first daylight game since April 22nd.
Tetsu Yofu (3-1) picked up the win after tossing 6.2 innings and giving up two runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out seven. Steve Kelly (3-1) took the loss after giving up three runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings.
The Barons got on the board first with an RBI single by Carlos Maldonado in the first but Chattanooga answered with a run of their own in the third on a RBI double by William Bergolla.
The score stayed tied until the sixth when the Lookouts took a one-run lead on a Kenny Kelly RBI single. The Barons escaped the inning with the one-run deficit and rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead. Shortstop Mike Morse led of the inning with a rocket home run to right field to tie the game and, following a Maldonado single, Aaron McNeal ripped a double to left center to plate Maldonado and give the Barons the lead for good.
Birmingham tacked on three insurance runs in the seventh on an RBI double by Michael Spidale, a run scoring triple by Morse and an RBI single by Maldonado.
The Barons look to earn a series split tomorrow night as they send out LHP Heath Phillips (3-0, 2.45) to face RHP Brian Rose (0-1, 4.15). The game begins at 7:00 PM and you can catch all the action on 101.1 FM "The Source" with Curt Bloom on the call.
