Barons Bite Back at Bulldogs, 4-1
March 4, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Barons News Release
CLEVELAND, OH -- Lukas Kaspar scored his 11th and 12th goals of the season on Saturday night leading the Barons to a 4-1 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs in front of 6,227 fans. Supported by 22-saves from Nolan Schaefer the Barons snapped a 10-game winless stretch on home ice.
For just the fifth time in the last 25 games the Barons scored the game's opening goal. Unfortunately the Bulldogs would answer with one of their own to tie the game at 1-1 through twenty minutes of play. Lukas Kaspar started the scoring for Cleveland with an unassisted low wrist shot that beat Bulldog netminder Jaroslav Halak between the legs. The Bulldogs equalizer was provided by Pierre Dagenais, who scored his sixth goal in the last seven games and eighth of the year overall.
The Barons registered two unanswered tallies in the middle frame to hold a 3-1 edge after forty minutes of play. Kaspar's second of the game came at the 11:58 mark on an assist from Shane Joseph and Tim Conboy. Hamilton would argue the goal by Kaspar was batted in the net with a high stick, but referee Justin St. Pierre allowed the goal and the Barons 2-1 lead. Mike Iggulden then scored the 20th goal of his rookie campaign to gain the first two-goal lead of the night for Cleveland at 18:40.
Josh Hennessy equaled Iggulden's 20-goal season with an empty net tally insuring the first victory on home ice since January 8th. Patrick Rissmiller assisted on the goal as both he and Hennessy finished the night with two points. Prior to the goal, Hamilton failed to score on two power play chances in the third period and finished the night 0 for 7 with the man-advantage. The Barons out-shot Hamilton 30-23 and Nolan Schaefer's 22-saver performance led to his first win in his last 10 appearances.
The Barons do not return to home ice until Thursday, March 23rd when they battle the AHL's top team, the Grand Rapids Griffins at 7pm. Tickets for that night's action are available for as little as $9 per ticket at the Quicken Loans Arena Box Office. Following the game on the 23rd the Barons will kick-start the month of April with a five-game home stand to close out the regular season with a back-to-back weekend series against the Iowa Stars on the 1st and 2nd.
