Lancaster Stormers News Release

The Lancaster Barnstormers put together a trio of two-run innings on Friday evening for a come-from-behind, 6-5 victory over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at Regency Furniture Stadium.

Lancaster's lead in the Freedom Division race was extended back to 3 1/2 games as York dropped a 12-9 decision at home against the Somerset Patriots.

Southern Maryland grabbed a 3-0 lead in a quirky fourth inning. Zach Wilson flared a single to center to open the frame, and Jovan Rosa picked up a walk. Both runners moved ahead on a Bryant Nelson bunt. Jamar Walton rolled a ball up the third base line. Starter Bryan Morgado, who made a perfect throw to first from the same spot on Nelson's bunt, fired this one wildly, allowing one run to score and leaving men at first and third. Morgado got Casey Frawley to pop out, but Keith Castillo looped a double down the right field line to score two more for the 3-0 edge.

Zach Collier stroked a two-run triple into right center field with two outs in the top of the fifth to cut the Crabs' lead back to one, but Rosa responded with a two-run single up the middle off Pete Andrelczyk (6-2) in the bottom of the inning after Morgado left with an injury.

Mike McDade provided the juice for the rest of the evening. The Lancaster first baseman, who was given Thursday night's series finale in Camden off, followed a double by Kent Matthes with a two-run homer to left center in the top of the sixth to slice the lead to 5-4.

The Barnstormers caught a break in the seventh. Juan Apodaca opened the inning against Trey Barham (0-2) with a single up the middle. Collier placed a bunt just in front of the plate. Castillo had a chance at the force at second but sailed his throw into center, giving Lancaster two on with nobody out.

Anderson Feliz pushed them ahead with a bunt. Matthes got the tying run home with a sacrifice fly to center on the 11th pitch of his at bat. McDade followed with a long double to right center, giving Lancaster the lead.

The bullpen carried it home from there. Over the final four innings, Andrelczyk, Al Yevoli, Scott Patterson, Scott Gracey and Marcus Walden did not allow a ball out of the infield, walked one and struck out eight. The only scare came in the eighth when Walton rolled a grounder into the hole at shortstop, and Lance Zawadzki skipped the throw past McDade. Gracey calmly struck out Frawley and retired Castillo on a grounder to second.

Walden got the side in order in the ninth for his club-leading sixth save.

Lancaster will send Madison Boer (1-1) to the hill on Saturday evening against right-hander Daryl Thompson (4-4). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; rumba1390.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 6:15.
