
Blue Crabs Drop Game One to Lancaster

Waldorf, MD --- Southern Maryland has had a knack of playing in close games as of late, and tonight was no different as the Lancaster Barnstormers defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs by the final of 6-5.
Lancaster used five pitchers out of the bullpen after Bryan Morgado left the ballgame early, going four innings, allowing three runs, on five hits. Southern Maryland scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Zach Wilson led things off with a single, followed by a walk to Jovan Rosa to put two runners on. The veteran Bryant Nelson was the next hitter, and he dropped down a bunt down to put runners at second and third. Jamar Walton then singled to score Wilson to make it 1-0. Two batters later, Keith Castillo ripped a double to score Rosa and Walton to make it 3-0.
In the top of the fifth, Zach Collier tripled in two runs to make it a one run ballgame. In the bottom of the frame, with two runners on Jovan Rosa singled in two runs, scoring DeJesus, and Stevenson to make it 5-2.
Lancaster scored four unanswered runs to tie the game, and take the lead. In the top of the sixth, Kent Matthes doubled, and the next hitter Mike McDade drove a two run homerun over the wall in left center to once again make it a one run game. In the top of the seventh, Matthes came up to the plate with one out, and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 5-5. Mike McDade then came up again in an RBI situation and doubled to score the go-ahead run Matthes to bring the score to its' final of 6-5.
Southern Maryland's offense struck out 12 times in the ballgame, while Jamar Walton went 3-4, and Antone DeJesus went 2-5 with a run scored. Lancaster banged out 11 hits on the night.
Game two of the series will take place tomorrow night at 6:35 P.M. RHP Madison Boer (1-1, 3.85) will throw for Lancaster, while RHP Daryl Thompson will start for Southern Maryland.
