Barnstormers Sign Two from Tryout

DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers have signed two players following the team's 2023 Open Tryout, Head Coach Dave Mogensen announced today.
On Saturday, November 12 the Iowa Barnstormers held their Open Tryout at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. Over 50 athletes from across the country competed for a chance at making the 2023 Barnstormers Training Camp roster. Two of those hopefuls, wide receiver Max Elliott from Virginia and defensive back Joshua Johnson from Indiana earned invitations to Training Camp.
Elliott (5-9, 185, Newberry College) joins the Iowa Barnstormers for his rookie season in the Indoor Football League (IFL). Collegiately, Elliott played at Newberry College for two years where he appeared in 14 games and collected 15 receptions for 158 yards and two touchdowns.
"Max came to us with an interesting background as an accomplished college player as well as having a following from participating in traveling one-on-one competitions on YouTube," said Coach Mogensen. "He ran a couple of 4.4 40's during the testing periods and showed very advanced route running ability throughout the workout. It seemed every time we turned around Max was hauling in a big play during competitive drills. He will turn some heads in training camp as he fights for a final roster spot."
Johnson (5-9, 190, Wayne State) also joins the Iowa Barnstormers for his rookie IFL season. Collegiately, Johnson began his career at Olivet College where he appeared on the football team as well as the track team before transferring to Wayne State University. Johnson played one season with the Wayne State Warriors.
"Joshua had an impressive day with the testing numbers and showed a lot of fluidity as a defensive back," said Coach Mogensen. "He has a track background and didn't latch onto football until later in his college career. We think he could be a diamond in the rough and contribute to the team in multiple ways as a defensive back on special teams."
Elliott and Johnson will both enter the Iowa Barnstormers 2023 Training Camp in the spring to vie for a spot on the final roster.
