Iowa Barnstormers News Release

The Frisco Fighters defeated the Iowa Barnstormers in round one of the IFL Playoffs on Friday night, 64-39.

Frisco QB, TJ Edwards, came out to a red-hot start as he connected with Jerminic Smith on the first play of the game. Darius-James Peterson rewarded his team six points with a touchdown pass to RB Antonio Wimbush, but Frisco RB Justin Rankin answered back with a rushing touchdown. Ardarius Stewart reached the end zone for Iowa, followed by a successful 2-point conversion, to tie the game at 14.

A long offensive possession for the Fighters resulted in a rushing touchdown for Edwards. The Barnstormers turned the ball over on downs, and the Fighters took over with less than a minute remaining in the quarter. Smith scored his second touchdown of the night to extend their lead, and DB Santos Ramirez intercepted Peterson's next pass to reach the end zone and give Frisco a 34-14 halftime lead.

In need of a score, Iowa opened up the second half with a touchdown catch from WR Kentrez Bell. Dom McNeil also caught an impressive touchdown pass for the Barnstormers, but his team still trailed 27-41 heading into the final quarter.

Edwards reached the end zone once again to start the fourth quarter. A comeback was behind the eyes of Peterson when he reached the end zone with six minutes remaining, but a blocked field goal from Frisco resulted in a touchdown. The Fighters were able to prevail at home, 64-39.

This concludes the Iowa Barnstormers 2022 season. The Frisco Fighters will move on to face the Quad City Steamwheelers in round 2 of the IFL Playoffs.
