Wranglers Host Tucson in Round One of IFL Playoffs

The Northern Arizona Wranglers return home, to Pinnacle Bank Field at the Findlay Toyota Center, for their first playoff game in franchise history.

On Saturday evening, the Wranglers and Tucson Sugar Skulls will faceoff for the fourth and final time this season. This matchup holds more weight than the previous three battles, because this is the Wranglers first-ever playoff game. It is a win or go home scenario for both teams, as they look to accomplish their goal, which is winning the Indoor Football League National Championship game. The first step for either team is winning this game on Saturday.

The Wranglers will host the Sugar Skulls, on their home field, after securing the number two seed in the IFL's Western Conference, with a regular season record of 12-4. The Sugar Skulls enter the IFL Playoffs as the third seed in the Western Conference, as they completed their regular season with a 9-7 record. The Wranglers have gotten the best of the Sugar Skulls in two out of the three previous encounters this season.

Northern Arizona and Tucson have engaged in hard fought and exciting games this season, and this one should be no different. The first time that the Wranglers traveled to Tucson this season, it was a 72-62 shootout that ended with the Sugar Skulls earning the victory. The Wranglers won the last two showdowns with the Sugar Skulls, most recently winning on the road by a score of 34-32. This game was in late May and ended with a last second field goal from local Northern Arizona kicker Brandon Fischer.

The Sugar Skulls have the IFL's second ranked scoring offense, while the Wranglers still hold their position as the top scoring defense in the league. The Wranglers have yet to lose at home this season, going 8-0 on Pinnacle Bank Field at the Findlay Toyota Center. Northern Arizona is aiming for their first playoff victory in franchise history, and to move one step closer to an appearance in the IFL National Championship game.
