Duke City Gladiators News Release
The Duke City Gladiators and the Arizona Rattlers will write a new chapter in their rivalry this weekend. The teams will go head-to-head in what is expected to be a high-energy, energetic show of athleticism, heart, and talent in first round of the 2022 Indoor Football League (IFL) Playoffs. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. Sunday, June 24 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix.
"We are ready for battle," said Interim Head Coach Fred Griggs, who took the helm of the men in teal in early June. "We are coming in with a vengeance since last year's playoffs."
The Gladiators have accomplished its second consecutive playoff season in their first two seasons in the IFL. The Gladiators are ranked fourth, while the Rattlers top the western division.
The Gladiators go into Sunday's game with eight wins, eight losses during its regular season - two coming from the Rattlers.
During last year's semi-finals, the Gladiators barely lost to the Rattlers on a very controversial call late in the fourth quarter.
"We won't leave it to the home field advantage to dictate the end score this time around," Griggs said. "We are prepared to let the scoreboard do the talking. History won't repeat itself."
The victorious team will face the winner of the Northern Arizona and Tucson Sugar Skulls first-round playoff game.
"At the beginning of the season, I told my staff and coaches that we will bring back the championship to New Mexico," said Gladiators' owner Gina Prieskorn-Thomas. "And we are on that track to do that. Our team has been battle-tested this season, and we are ready to bring home that championship one yard at a time."
