Iowa Barnstormers News Release
Des Moines, IA - The Iowa Barnstormers (3-2) go undefeated on their home turf with a steep defeat against the now 2-3 Los Angeles KISS.
With the intensity high at Wells Fargo Arena, the Iowa Barnstormers hit the field looking for a victory in the 2014 HYDRIVE AFL Hall of Fame Game. Iowa started strong on both sides of the ball with multiple touchdown receptions and big plays by the motivated defense. QB Carson Coffman connected with receivers Julian Williams and Marco Thomas, putting fourteen on the board for the home team. The Iowa defense contributed with linebacker Mike Lewis leading the pack. A quarterback sack by Lewis and another first quarter interception by Tramain Thomas held LA to a scoreless first quarter. Three sacks tallied for the night, Lewis earned Riddell Defensive Player of the Game.
Coffman kept the pace in the second, bringing in a touchdown of his own and completing another in the air to WR Darius Reynolds. The KISS came close several times, but a lone touchdown by Donovan Morgan wasn't enough to narrow the margin by much. The compilation of penalties against the opposing team only brought opportunity for the Iowa Barnstormers. Finishing up the first half Iowa remained on top, 28-6.
The second half of the first-ever matchup between Iowa and Los Angeles was less of an influence, tallying only an Iowa field goal and a last minute touchdown for Los Angeles. Bringing in QB Tyler Hanson brought several interceptions for the struggling offense. The Barnstormers, too, weren't able to score in the third, but snuck in a field goal by K Ross Gornall before the clock ran out. With less than a minute left in the game, the KISS offense was able to put another six on the board. Barnstormers win, 31-12.
