Barnstormers Roll to Eighth Straight

A pair of multi-run innings were all the Lancaster Barnstormers needed to secure a 7-1 decision over the Road Warriors at Clipper Magazine Stadium Saturday Night. Lancaster's win is their eighth consecutive and improves their record to 14-5 on the young season. The contest marked the start of a three game set with the Road Warriors, concluding on Sunday afternoon with a double header.

With the win, Lancaster remains atop the Freedom Division, one game ahead of Sugar Land and holding the best record in the Atlantic League.

Starter Joe Gardner (2-1) earned the win for Lancaster allowing just one run on five singles over six innings, while striking out five. The Stormers supported their pitcher early with a three spot in the opening inning thanks to an RBI double for Joey Terdoslavich and a two-run single to right from Trayvon Robinson.

Lancaster was kept quiet by Felix Baez (1-3) went quiet for a few innings until the 'Stormers pushed four across in the bottom of the sixth. All nine batters came to the plate in the inning as Lancaster picked up a pair of baserunners off Baez and capitalized off ex-big league right-hander Jailen Peguero. Rico Noel greeted Peguero with a double into the left field corner for a 4-1 lead. Darian Sandford tacked on another run with a sac fly to left center. After Tyler Bortnick was hit by a pitch, Blake Gailen and Terdoslavich picked up an RBI apiece with singles.

The Road Warriors lone run came off Gardner in the third as Alfredo Silvero drew a two-out walk, took second on a passed ball and came home on a ground single up the middle by former Cub Osvaldo Martinez.

The Barnstormers' pen held the opposition to just a pair of hits and no runs over three innings. Kevin Munson, Garett Granitz, and Matt Marksberry all participated in helping limit the production of the Road Warriors.

The Lancaster Barnstormers will play a Sunday doubleheader to wrap up the series against the Road Warriors with game one starting at 1pm. Right hander Jonathan Albaladejo (2-1) will make the start, followed by Brooks Hall (1-1) in game two. The Road Warriors will counter with right-hander Raul Rivera (1-1) and lefty Kelvin Villa (0-1). NOTES: The eight-game winning streak is two shy of the franchise record, set in August 2014...Lancaster's starting pitcher won for the eighth straight game...The ERA for the starters over that time is 1.88 (9 ER/43.0 IP)...Gailen has 21 RBI in 17 games; Terdoslavich has 20...League batting leader Rico Noel was 2-for-4 to improve his average to .458.
