Right-handed pitcher Brian Grening has been signed to a 2014 contract by the Lancaster Barnstormers, it was announced today by manager Butch Hobson.

In addition, the Barnstormers have agreed to terms with second baseman Yusuke Kajimoto, a former utility infielder with the Yakult Swallows and Orix Buffaloes of the Japanese Major Leagues.

Grening, 28, compiled a 6-7 record for the Barnstormers in 2013, while fulfilling a variety of roles. The California native both started and appeared in relief 15 times and posted a 3.74 ERA. In 113 innings, Grening allowed 116 hits but only 32 walks, while striking out 79. The changeup specialist's season was highlighted by a complete game, four-hit shutout at Camden in the first game of a doubleheader on July 16.

Prior to coming to Lancaster, Grening had spent three seasons in the Cleveland Indians system and two others in the American Association. He has an overall record of 31-19 in his six minor league seasons.

"Brian is a strike thrower and a real battler," said Hobson. "You know you're going to get everything he's got when he is out there."

Kajimoto, 30, spent a portion of seven seasons in the Japanese Majors from 2004-2012. He appeared in a total of 147 games at seven different positions. Kajimoto made only two errors in 133 total chances in the middle infield.

"(Kajimoto) has a really good glove, and he can run," said Hobson.

The Lancaster Barnstormers are entering their tenth season as a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Home games are played at Clipper Magazine Stadium in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Please call 717.509.HITS (4487) or visit LancasterBarnstormers.com for more information.
