Iowa Barnstormers News Release
DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers have executed a three-way trade with the Los Angeles KISS and the Jacksonville Sharks to acquire quarterback J.J. Raterink, Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Mike Hohensee announced today.
After LA and Jacksonville swapped Raterink and quarterback Aaron Garcia, Iowa sealed a deal with Jacksonville to bring Raterink back to his former 2013 team. In the trade, Jacksonville will receive the Barnstormers current nose guard, James McClinton.
"We are fortunate to bring in a familiar face, especially considering the unknown status of our current quarterback injuries," said Hohensee. "Not only does J.J. know our offense and wristband, but has a relationship with receivers Marco Thomas and Darius Reynolds. His familiarity with our cadence will be an advantage for this team when and if he is needed to play."
Raterink (6-2, 210, Wyoming) is amidst his eighth season in the Arena Football League. As the new League franchise Los Angeles KISS leading quarterback, he has collected 1,723 passing yards for 26 touchdowns. Last season, Raterink appeared in 18 games while tallying 4,015 yards and seventy-eight touchdowns. In his first season with the Barnstormers franchise, he broke numerous passing records and was named team MVP. Raterink's other professional experiences include tenures with the Kansas City Command, Chicago Rush, and Quad City Steamwheelers.
Raterink played four years (01-04) of college football at the University of Wyoming.
The Iowa Barnstormers return to Wells Fargo Arena this Saturday, May 17th to take on the undefeated Cleveland Gladiators. Individual game tickets for this event and any other regular season game may be purchased at the Wells Fargo Arena Box Office or by calling the Barnstormers at 515-633-2255.
