Jacksonville Sharks News Release
JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks announced Monday that the team has executed trades with the Los Angeles KISS and the Iowa Barnstormers. As a result of the moves, the Sharks ultimately added veteran defensive lineman James McClinton from Iowa and both a claim order position and future considerations from Los Angeles.
In Monday's trades, the Sharks first traded quarterback Aaron Garcia to the Los Angeles KISS in exchange for quarterback J.J. Raterink, a claim order position and future considerations. Jacksonville then traded Raterink to Iowa for McClinton.
The 27-year-old McClinton (6'1", 315) is in the midst of his second season in the AFL. He had appeared in five games with the Barnstormers (three starts), totaling 5.0 tackles (three solo), 2.0 tackles for loss and 1.5. McClinton played against the Sharks this past Saturday night, recording a partial sack in the process. McClinton previously saw AFL action with the Spokane Shock in 2011.
Prior to beginning his professional career, McClinton was a standout performer at the University of Kansas, where he totaled 85.5 tackles, 30 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks, adding three forced fumbles and an interception. McClinton's best season as a Jayhawk came during his junior year in 2006, when he racked up 14.0 tackles for loss and five sacks.
In another roster move, the Sharks announced that offensive lineman Roderick Tomlin has been placed on league suspension.
