May 15, 2022 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Iowa Barnstormers News Release
The Barnstormers started the game with the first ball possession, managing to put points on the board early with a rushing touchdown from Quarterback Darius-James Peterson. Kicker Gabriel Rui secured the extra point putting the team up 7-0. Rui continued his scoring throughout the end of the first and beginning of the second quarter with two made field goals of his own putting the team ahead 13-0.
The Barnstormers' defense had to get in on the action. Linebacker Ian McBorrough had an impressive quarterback sack at the 50-yard line. The Bucks responded swiftly to the Barnstormers with two touchdowns of their own putting them ahead 13-14 with minutes left in the first half. However, QB Peterson found the last-minute connection with Wide Receiver Alvin Bailey to end the first half 20-17.
The Bucks received the ball to start the third quarter. It did not take Bismarck long to find the end zone to increase their lead 20-24. Barnstormers got the ball back and advanced down the field. Wide Receiver Dom McNeil showed off some serious speed with a rushing touchdown of his own to put the Barnstormers up 27-24. Just like the first half, the Barnstormers defense was dynamic with playmaking. Defensive End Dave Calderon made a solo quarterback sack at the 2-yard line forcing the Bucks to attempt a 50-yard field goal, which they missed; allowing the Barnstormers a chance to score. QB Peterson capitalized on the opportunity and found Wide Receiver Kentrez Bell in the corner of the end zone to make the score 34-24 with 4:00 minutes left in the third quarter. After a long Barnstormers possession, the Bucks finally received the ball and made their way into the end zone with 1:00 left in the third quarter continuing to trail the Barnstormer 34-30.
To start the fourth quarter, the scoring continued for the second time of the night between Barnstormers offensive players, QB Peterson and WR Bell increasing the lead 41-31 with 12:32 left in the fourth quarter. After many unsuccessful scoring attempts by both teams, Barnstormers were forced to punt which resulted in a scoring kick return made by Bismarck. A two-point conversion was attempted but was foiled by Barnstormers defense creating the score of 41-36 with Iowa continuing to lead with 3:48 left in the game. The Barnstormers defense continued to hold their own throughout the continuation of the game and was able to hold off the Bucks offense til the end. The Barnstormers beat the Bucks, 41-36.
The Iowa Barnstormers will hit the road next week to take on Green Bay Blizzard (3-6) for the second time this season. Kickoff is set for 7:05 P.M. on Friday, May 20, at the Resch Center.
