Sioux Falls Storm News Release

The Sioux Falls Storm lost their fourth game of the season Saturday night at home against the Frisco Fighters, snapping their two-game win streak.

The Fighters (6-2) came in looking like the top seed in the Eastern conference, jumping out to an early 13-0 lead in the first quarter. Sioux Falls (4-4) didn't get their first touchdown of the game until the final seconds of the opening quarter on a 13-yard pass from quarterback Dalton Sneed to wide receiver Donnie Corley.

Frisco responded to start the second quarter, only needing one play to score a 28-yard touchdown, taking a 14-point lead at 20-6. The next possession, the Storm went 40 yards in three minutes and Sneed through a bullet pass to Tim Keith, cutting the Fighter's lead to seven. Backup quarterback TJ Edwards came in for two plays for the Fighters and threw an interception on the second play, allowing running back Nate Chavious to score his first touchdown of the game, tying the game at 20 midway through the second quarter. The Fighters drilled a 43-yard field goal to take a 23-20 lead at halftime.

A 53-yard kick return from Chavious right out of the halftime break gave the Storm their first lead of the game 26-23. They held that lead for the next four minutes until the Fighters reclaimed the lead on a one-yard touchdown rush from Blake Sims putting Frisco back up 30-26.

Sioux Falls did not lead the rest of the game as every attempt to come back, Frisco always had an answer. They also only had one touchdown after Chavious' run, as the rest of their points came from field goals from kicker Sawyer Petre. After trailing by 11 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, Aaron Dilworth had a diving catch out of bounds for a touchdown making the score 43-39 with 10:14 to play.

The Fighters scored in one play in response to Dilworth's touchdown finding the Storm again trailing by double-digits. The Storm turned it over on downs afterwards and Frisco had a touchdown dagger with three minutes remaining ending the game with a final of 57-39.

Sneed got the start at quarterback for Sioux Falls, completing 14-of-24 passes for 123 yards and three touchdowns. He was sacked five times in the game. Chavious ran seven times for 25 yards and a touchdown. Dilworth reeled in nine catches for 73 yards and a touchdown and Donnie Corley had three receptions for 35 yards and a touchdown catch.

Carlos Thompson, Famus Hasty, Paris Taylor and Ta'Corian Darden had five tackles apiece. Mike Alvarez had two tackles and an interception. Petre struggled on field goals, going 2-of-5 on kicks, making it from 23 and 29 yards and missing from 37, 21 and 51 yards respectively.

The Storm sit at fifth place in the Eastern conference standings at 4-4 halfway through the season with eight games to play. They are on the road for the next three games playing the Massachusetts Pirates on May 21 at 6:05 p.m. Then they have their third game with the Quad City Steamwheelers June 4 at 7:05 p.m. The Storm won their first game against Quad City at home in their season opener on March 13 35-24.
