Barnstormers Filer Returns for 13th Season

DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers continued to add to their 2012 roster as Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Mike Hohensee announced today that the team has agreed to terms with veteran Fullback Rodney Filer along with rookie Kicker George Pierson.

Filer (6-3, 255) will return to the Barnstormers for his 13 AFL season in 2012. The former University of Iowa Hawkeye began his AFL career with the first of two stints with the Barnstormers in 1999. Filer has also spent time in the AFL playing for New York, Las Vegas, Tampa Bay and Utah, before returning to the Barnstormers in 2010. His 12 years of experience make him one of the most tenured players in league history. Last season Filer appeared in 17 games for Iowa, rushing for 146 yards and 4 touchdowns. He surpassed the 1,000 yard career rushing mark during a victory over Orlando on June 4. In addition to his running skills, Filer will be a key leader in the Barnstormers pass protection schemes.

Pierson (5-11, 204) was one of more than a dozen kickers who attended the Barnstormers Free Agent Camp on Saturday, October 15. The Arlington, VA native caught the eye of Hohensee and his staff and was offered a contract for the 2012 season. Pierson has experience kicking professionally as he spent the 2011 season with the Reno Barons of the AIFA. In college, Pierson was used primarily as a punter during a two-year stint at Kansas State. Prior to that he kicked and punted for Tyler Junior College for two seasons and was named to the All-Southwest Junior College Football Conference First Team.

Filer and Pierson will be among a group of 35 players that report to the Barnstormers training camp this February to compete for a spot with the club.
