Spokane, WA: The Spokane Shock announced today that DL Jonathan Williams and DB Jameel Dowling have been added to the 2012 roster.

Williams becomes the ninth player from the 2011 roster to return. As an AFL rookie in 2011, Williams played in seven games and collected 5.5 tackles - including 2.5 for loss - with 1.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries (one for a touchdown).

"It's not always pretty on the defensive line," Head Coach Andy Olson said. "An effective nose guard can free up the edge rushers to put pressure on the quarterback. I know that Jonathan can do that for us using his experience from last year to improve his game for the upcoming season."

Williams made his professional debut with the BC Lions in after capping off his collegiate career at South Carolina in 2008. As a Gamecock, Williams tallied 20 tackles and two sacks in just 25 games.

In 2010, Dowling (6-3 205) played for the UFL-Champion Las Vegas Locomotives, where he collected 19 tackles. The previous season, Dowling signed as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals and appeared in four preseason games before being released at the end of camp.

A Tacoma, Washington native, Dowling gained experience in the Pac-10 and WAC Conferences during his collegiate career. As a senior in 2008, Dowling played in 14 games, collecting 66 tackles, two interceptions, three pass break-ups and 1.5 sacks at the University of Hawaii. Before transferring to Hawaii, Dowling played for the University of Oregon where he appeared in 11 games and registered nine tackles. A two-sport athlete in junior college (football and track), Dowling starred at Butte College where he received all-conference football honors in 2004 and 2005.

"At 6-foot-3, Jameel has great size and unusual speed for someone at his height," Head Coach Andy Olson explained. "With professional experience in the NFL and the UFL, his football resume speaks for itself. We've never had a DB with his size and I'm anxious for Coach Franks (DB Coach) to teach him the ins and outs of the Arena game."

Spokane will open the 2012 season on Monday March 12th as they host the Iowa Barnstormers. For 2012 ticket information contact the Spokane Shock Ticket Office at 509 242 7462 ext. 1.
