Iowa Barnstormers News Release

DES MOINES - It came down to one final play as the Iowa Barnstormers (6-5) fell to the Sioux Falls Storm (6-5) in Des Moines on Saturday night, 42-34.

The Sioux Falls offense took the field first, scoring 3 points with a field goal from Sawyer Petre. Iowa was able to quickly answer back with a touchdown pass from QB Darius-James Peterson to WR Kentrez Bell. That lead didn't last long, though, as Storm WR Carlos Thompson returned the following kickoff for a touchdown. A quarterback-sack for the Sioux Falls defense kept the momentum on their side and set up a long, missed field goal for Gabriel Rui.

Multiple defensive penalties against the Barnstormers, including an unsportsmanlike conduct call against Head Coach Dave Mogensen, helped set up a first-and-goal for the Storm. They were able to take advantage with a rushing touchdown from QB Dalton Sneed. The Barnstormer offense took over, but Peterson was sacked in the end zone, awarding the Storm 2 points and possession of the ball. Peterson was able to answer back with a rushing touchdown, but the Storm still wouldn't let up, as Sneed threw another touchdown pass. Rui was able to make a field goal as time expired and the Barnstormers trailed 29-17 at the end of the first half.

Iowa opened up the third quarter with another field goal from Rui. The Storm offense, still red-hot, answered right back with a receiving touchdown from Thompson. Looking for the late comeback, the Barnstormers were able to put 8 points on the board with a touchdown and 2-point conversion.

The fourth quarter began with a touchdown pass to WR Antonio Wimbush, shrinking the Storm lead to 5. Barnstormer LB Ian McBorrough sacked Sneed and helped set up a missed field goal from Petre. Looking for their first lead of the night, Rui was forced to kick a long field goal and missed. A made field goal by Petre gave the Barnstormers the ball back with 55 seconds to go, down by 8. Looking for the win, Peterson threw an interception in the end zone and Sioux Falls prevailed, 42-34.

This was the fourth and final matchup between Iowa and Sioux Falls this season. With tonight's win, Sioux Falls was able to tie the series 2-2.

The Barnstormers are off next week, but will return to Wells Fargo Arena on June 18th to face the Frisco Fighters (8-2).
