Bay Area Panthers Look to Bounce Back Saturday
June 4, 2022 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Bay Area Panthers News Release
San Jose, CA - Saturday, the Bay Area Panthers (1-9), The Bay's Indoor Football League (IFL) team, return home to face the visiting Arizona Rattlers (8-2) as the Panthers look to build momentum for the second half of the season. The Panthers face a stiff challenge in IFL (and former Arena Football League) powerhouse, the Arizona Rattlers. The two teams met last week in Arizona, where the Rattlers triumphed 38-23.
Players to Watch
The Bay Area Panthers feature one of the most exciting rosters in the IFL. Head Coach Kurt Bryan will continue to emphasize his innovative run scheme led by Quarterback Joe Newman, as well as RB Duane Gary. Newman not only leads the team in rushing, but ranks at the top of the league leaderboards as well. Coach Bryan has stuck to his preseason commitment to the run game as the Panthers rank #4 in rushing yards per contest. Newman is coming off a 6/10 and 2 TD game against Arizona, and his ability to limit turnovers will be a major factor if the Panthers are able to pull off the upset.
The Rattlers enter the game with the league's #1 ranked Offense led by IFL Star and reigning IFL MVP QB Drew Powell. Despite the potent combination of Powell and RB/WR Jamal Miles the Panthers defense led by Bay Area standout LB Derik (DJ) Calhoun limited the Rattlers offense to only 14 points in the first half last week. They will need that kind of effort for both halves to win.
Game Notes
Panthers have parted ways with WR Kameron Pleasant and signed WR Isaiah Thomas...The Panthers will be without Special Teams star, Raysean Pringle (2x Special teams player of the week), as they placed him on season ending IR last week.
The game will be broadcast on TV (CW) as well as on YouTube and can be heard on 95.7 the game.
