Lancaster Stormers News Release

Lancaster has taken the Lone Star State by storm.

After two games of holding on to a remnant of a big lead, the Barnstormers never looked back on Sunday evening, rolling to a 9-0 win over the host Sugar Land Skeeters at Constellation Field.

It was Lancaster's fourth straight win and 10th in the last 11 tries. The Barnstormers second half lead in the Freedom Division has bulged to 4 1/2 games over the Skeeters.

Even more impressively, the Barnstormers now have the best overall record in the Atlantic League by 13 1/2 games.

Horacio Ramirez (2-0) dealt seven shutout innings without allowing a runner beyond first base. He yielded four singles and no walks while striking out five. Ching-Lung Lo came on for the final two innings to complete the shutout.

Travis Denker provided the offensive thrust early. The Lancaster third baseman drove a long sacrifice fly to right field in the second for a 1-0 lead off lefty Scott Kazmir (0-4) and ended a streak of outs for Kazmir with a home run to left in the fourth.

The Barnstormers ripped the game wide open in the fifth. Francisco Hernandez fisted a single into right field, and Adam Godwin was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced on a bunt by Gilberto Mejia. Sugar Land opted to walk Blake Gailen intentionally to set up a potential double play with Tommy Everidge stepping in. The first baseman ruined the strategy, lining a single off the top of shortstop Iggy Suarez' glove for an RBI single.

Right-hander Garrett Parcel came on and walked Fehlandt Lentini to force home a second run. Ryan Harvey popped out, but Denker delivered a two-run single to left for a 6-0 advantage. Kody Kirkland followed with a two-run triple to the alley in right center, adding to the cushion.

The Barnstormers would not score again until a two-out RBI single by Harvey in the ninth.

It looked like the shutout was lost in the top of the ninth. Dominic Ramos led off with a single and went to second uncontested. One out later, Aaron Bates singled into center. Godwin charged the play and made a perfect throw home to cut down Ramos and preserve the whitewash.

John Halama (8-7) will throw for the Barnstormers on Monday evening against right-hander Michael Nix (3-9). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app beginning at 7:45 EDT.
