Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Bridgeport, Conn. - August 12, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (15-13, 46-52) came back to defeat the Camden Riversharks (14-16, 47-51) by a score of 3-2 at The Ballpark Harbor Yard on Sunday. The Bluefish are 7-6 against the Riversharks this season.
The Riversharks had 1-0 and 2-1 leads before the Bluefish scored twice in the sixth. Luis Figueroa served a single to drive in the run that tied the game at two. With the bases loaded, Angel Flores walked to push across the eventual winning run. Flores reached base three times on the afternoon while Figueroa picked up two hits. Shea Hillenbrand smacked his third homer in 2012. The shot to leftcenter in the second accounted for one of two runs he scored on the day. Luis Lopez was the only other Bluefish player who produced two hits.
Eduardo Perez had the only multiple hit afternoon for the road team. He came away with three singles and scored a run. Alvin Colina and Danny Santiesteban drove in the only runs for the losing side.
Bluefish starter, Raymar Diaz, did not factor in the decision as the righthanded starter left the game with one out in the second inning with an injury. Diaz struck out two and gave up a hit. Matt Pike (2-5) entered out of the bullpen and tossed five-and-a-third innings and allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks while fanning two batters. The righthanded reliever won for the first time since May 4. Julio DePaula notched the first save of his Bluefish career as he retired every batter in two-and-a-third scoreless frames. The righthanded reliever struck out one batter.
Riversharks starter, Bryan Corey, tossed five innings of one run, four hit, three walk, and one strikeout baseball but did not factor in the decision. Blake King (2-4) suffered the loss out of the bullpen as the righthanded reliever surrendered two runs on three hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning. Bridgeport produced one hit and fanned three times in two-and-a-third frames against Camden hurler Spencer Steedley to finish the day.
The Bluefish start another three game series against the Camden Riversharks on Monday from Campbell's Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Bridgeport will send lefthanded starter Gilbert De La Vara (7-6, 3.56 ERA) against Camden righthanded starter Eddy Camacho (0-1, 3.67 ERA). The pre-game show airs twenty minutes before each first pitch.
