Lancaster Stormers News Release
Five Camden pitchers limited the Lancaster Barnstormers to five singles on Friday evening as the Riversharks dropped the Barnstormers, 3-0, in the opener of a three-game series at Campbell's Field.
Josh Walter (1-1) threw two-hit baseball for 6 1/3 innings before handing the ball over to the bullpen. Lancaster had a chance in the eighth when Blake Gailen and Travis Denker rapped out consecutive one-out singles off lefty Mike Antonini. Jon Velasquez was summoned from the bullpen and got Olmo Rosario to chop into a 6-4-3 double play.
The Barnstormers caught another break in the ninth when Joe Mather's bounder toward the middle took a wicked hop over second baseman Paddy Matera. Adrian Martin recovered and got Petey Paramore to ground into a 4-6-3 double play to end the night.
Camden grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third off Lenny DiNardo (1-1). Eduardo Perez singled off the glove of first baseman Daryle Ward to start the inning. The Riversharks put Perez in motion. Matera hit a chopper toward Kevin Howard at short. Howard made an attempt for a force out, slipped slightly, and his throw was too late. Juan Martinez laid down a bunt to move the runners. Third baseman Kody Kirkland handled the ball but made a wild throw to first as Perez scored. Matera came home from third on Stantrel Smith's double play grounder.
The Riversharks tacked on one more off DiNardo on three ground singles in the sixth. Raul Padron, who had the game's only extra base hit, singled up the middle and took second on a wild pitch. Yasser Gomez singled him to third, and Padron scored on a single through the left side to produce the run.
Lancaster will send right-hander Alan Johnson (0-0) to the hill against lefty Ryan Kulik (0-0) at 5:35 on Saturday.
NOTES: The Barnstormers have not scored in 21 innings and have had only one runner reach third base in that span...DiNardo has not walked a batter in 11 innings this season and leads the club with 11 strikeouts.
