
Patriots Overcome Three Different Deficits to Win 8-5 in 10 Innings

Waldorf, MD - The Somerset Patriots (5-3) defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (3-6) 8-5 in 10 innings from Regency Furniture Stadium in the first game of a three game weekend series. Somerset overcame deficits in the first inning, third inning and eighth inning to ultimately notch their third come from behind win of the season.
Center fielder Jeremy Owens smacked a leadoff home run (1) to left field to give the Blue Crabs a very early 1-0 lead.
Somerset responded in the top of the third inning as second baseman Jonny Tucker blooped a RBI single to center field to tie the contest at 1-1.
In the ensuing half inning Southern Maryland retook the lead as they plated three runs all with two outs. First baseman Ryan Mulhern socked a RBI double and catcher Jose Salas tallied a two RBI single.
In the top of the fourth frame first baseman Jake Fox slugged a solo homer (3) over the left field wall to cut the deficit to 4-2. Fox extended his hitting streak to seven games.
Designated hitter Yunesky Sanchez continued his hot start to the season as he sliced a game tying two RBI double down the left field line in the top if the fifth inning to make the score 4-4.
Right fielder Brian Barton recorded a go ahead RBI double in the bottom of the seventh to give the Blue Crabs a 5-4 advantage.
The Patriots once again responded as this time it was left fielder Luis Montanez who drove a game tying opposite field RBI single to right-center field to make the score 5-5 in the top of the eighth inning.
In the 10th inning the Patriots got RBI hits from Montanez, catcher James Skelton and third baseman Bobby Stevens to take a commanding 8-5 lead.
Closer Jon Hunton would throw a perfect bottom of the 10th to notch his second save in as many nights. Brandon Braboy (1-0) earned the win tossing two scoreless innings of relief. Tommy Mendoza (0-2) suffered the loss.
