Barnstormers Announce Initial Training Camp Roster

DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers Arena Football Club today announced that the 2008 Barnstormers Training Camp for arena football's much-anticipated return to Des Moines will start Monday, March 10 at Vets Auditorium.

Barnstormers Head Coach and Director of Football Operations, John Gregory, also announced thirty players who, by virtue of the arena football2 league's assignment signing process, have been invited to attend the Barnstormers training camp.

"This is an extremely talented and experienced group of players and I cannot wait for our fans to see what these guys can do on the field," said Gregory. "This organization is dedicated to giving Barnstormers fans and the people of Iowa a winner and these young men will give us the opportunity to be competitive from the first snap."

In addition to previously announced former Iowa State University standouts, Jason Berryman and Jeremy Loyd, a number of other local notables dot the Barnstormers initial training camp roster. Giving the Barnstormers an "Iowa Hawkeye" flavor is former University of Iowa star Tim Dodge. Dodge is no stranger to arena football as he was named the league-wide af2 2004 Ironman of the Year while playing for the Quad City Steamwheelers.

Gregory, a University of Northern Iowa graduate and member of the Panthers' Hall of Fame, also recruited a number of players from UNI's highly-regarded football program. Former Panthers Terrance Freeney and Mike Matthes played for Gregory last year in Arkansas, and will be joined at training camp by fellow UNI athletes Brooks Barney, Charles Johnson, Danny Triplett and Andrew Williams.

Team officials said additional details regarding the 2008 Barnstormers Training Camp will be announced in coming days.
