Former Seahawk Devine Joins Shock

Spokane, WA: The Spokane Shock announced today QB Derek Devine has been assigned to the 2008 roster. The Shock also placed LB Derron Ware has been placed on waivers.

Devine, 6'2" 230, was in training camp last season with the Seattle Seahawks competing against former Eastern Washington University QB Erik Meyer and QB David Greene before being released at the end of training camp.

After completing his collegiate career at Marshall University, Devine - a native Oregonian - attended a pro day workout in front of all 28 NFL teams. After this workout, he was offered a free agent contract by the Seattle Seahawks.

"We expect Derek Devine to come in and compete right away for a starting job," Head Coach Adam Shackleford said. "He is going to bring (NFL) experience and a great arm to Spokane. He's a taller kid with a great arm, appears to be a very accurate and makes great decisions with the football."

Before transferring to Marshall, Devine spent one season at Mt. San Antonio Community College where he passed for 1,549 yards and 13 touchdowns with an 8-3 record and a playoff berth.

Shackleford and the Shock will open up training camp this weekend and will conclude training camp on March 20th with an exhibition game against the Amarillo Dusters in the Yakima SunDome. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased through TicketsWest.
