LANCASTER, Pa.-As Friday's season opener draws closer, one thing is known: A huge crowd plans to celebrate a new season and greet new manager Von Hayes and his 2008 Lancaster Barnstormers. Only a handful of lawn seats remain for tonight's game against the Bridgeport Bluefish, one of the most anticipated home openers in the four years of baseball at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Last year's home opener drew a single-game Atlantic League record 8,092 fans. Ticket sales for this year's opener are already approaching that number-and the Barnstormers have the potential to break their own record this season..

"We're on a really good pace, not only for Opening Night but the entire weekend," Barnstormers general manager Kevin Cummings said. "If we get good weather-and it looks like we might-we've got a real shot at setting a new record. We're all just excited, as we know our fans are, to get the season going."

Tonight's festivities feature a circus theme with fans entering the gates under "The Barnstormers Big Top." The evening will get underway with a huge parade, complete with baton twirlers, mounted police, a calliope and more. It also marks the return of the popular I.M. Fun as the stadium emcee after a one-year hiatus. As always, the Barnstormers have some additional surprises in store for the fans on Opening Night.

There will also be a patriotic flavor to the night with the United States Marine Corps Second Division Marching Band scheduled to perform the National Anthem. The night will conclude with a fireworks display immediately after the conclusion of the first of 70 Barnstormers home games.

Rising country music star Jeremy McComb will perform prior to the game on Saturday night, presented by the Big I 105. There will also be a pennant giveaway before the game and a second spectacular fireworks show to cap the night.

On Sunday, young fans can play catch on the field prior to the game, and kids are invited to run the bases after the game thanks to Bob Evans, as the Barnstormers close out the series and homestand. Specialty collectible baseballs will be handed out at the gate to the first 2,000 fans, courtesy of Commerce Bank. Barnstormers players and coaches will also be available for autographs on the field prior to the game.

Fans wishing to purchase tickets for the weekend or any other home game may call the Clipper Magazine Stadium box office at (717) 509-3633 or go online to www.LancasterBarnstormers.com.
