Camden Riversharks News Release
CAMDEN, NJ- The theme of Opening Night at Campbell's Field was "A Night at the Symphony," but the game played more like a rock opera. Two Riversharks rocked their first homeruns, and two were rocked by pitches.
Right fielder L.J. Biernbaum hit his forty-fourth homerun as a Rivershark, and third baseman Brett Bonvechio followed later in the game with his first. Outfielder Nic Jackson and second baseman Gary Cates were plunked.
York took an early lead with a run in the second and another in the third, but from the bottom of the third on, the night belonged to Camden. The Riversharks took advantage of erratic pitching from York starter Aaron Myette, who went 4.2 innings with five hits and six earned runs. He also threw two wild pitches past catcher Luis Taveras.
Reliever Wayne Franklin came in the seventh for York and opened the dam for the Riversharks offense. Franklin allowed four runs, two earned, in a third of an inning. He walked three-two of which pushed bases-loaded runs across the plate.
Riversharks pitching held York to seven hits. Lefthander Kevin Walker started the game for Camden but was pulled before the end of the fifth, giving the win to his reliever, Tony Peguero. Walker went 4.2 innings with a walk and two strikeouts.
The series continues tomorrow at 5:05 p.m., when York southpaw Wayne Franklin squares off with Camden righty Darren Sack. Tickets are available online at www.riversharks.com or by calling 1-866-SHARKS-9.
