Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., Apr. 25, 2008) - Long Island Ducks team officials today announced the signing of outfielder Dominick Ambrosini and catcher Mike Rose. Ambrosini played with the Ducks in 2005 and 2006, batting an even .300 in 172 games with the Flock. The Ducks today also announced the signing of former big league catcher Mike Rose.
"Both of these guys give us veteran leadership and an additional pop in our lineup," says Ducks general manager Michael Pfaff. "We're excited to have them on our club and looking forward to getting the season started."
Ambrosini spent the entire 2007 season with the Lancaster Barnstormers. He enjoyed his best season as a professional ballplayer, batting .316 with 19 home runs and 70 RBI. His efforts earned him a selection to the Atlantic League All-Star Game. The 27-year-old was a sixth round draft pick of the Montreal Expos in 1999. He has played in 811 career minor league games, and owns a .260 lifetime average with 57 homers and 368 RBI.
Rose has played at the Triple-A level or higher each year since 2001. The catcher debuted on the big league stage with Oakland in 2004, and appeared with Los Angeles and St. Louis over the following two seasons. He spent all of last year with Buffalo (AAA, Cleveland) of the International League, batting .262 with seven home runs and 36 RBI in 88 games for the Bisons. The former Houston fifth-round pick's best season came in 2000, when he set career highs in RBI (62), games played (117), hits (100), doubles (22) and at-bats (352) while playing for El Paso (AA, Diamondbacks) of the Texas League.
In order to make room on the 25-man Opening Day roster, the Ducks also today announced that Rob Cafiero has been placed on the inactive list. The Massapequa Park native will remain with the club as a player/coach.
