Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Davenport, Iowa - The Quad Cities River Bandits saw their five-game win-streak come to an end on Thursday, as they fell to the Dayton Dragons 8-7 in ten innings at Modern Woodmen Park.
After the first third of the ballgame went scoreless for the third time in the series, the offenses exploded for nine combined runs in the fourth, with Dayton taking a 4-0 lead against William Fleming on a wild pitch and RBI hits from Steven Leyton and Michael Trautwein. However, Quad Cities rode a pair of homers from Peyton Wilson, a two-run shot, and Herard Gonzalez, a three-run shot, to jump in front 5-4 against Javi Rivera.
While the surge ended the night for Rivera, who recorded just one out in the Bandits' half as part of a 3.1-inning outing, Fleming responded with a scoreless fifth, departing in line for the win with three strikeouts in 5.0 innings.
Anthony Simonelli kept the Bandits' lead intact with a one-two-three sixth, but gave up a go-ahead two-run homer to Rece Hinds in the seventh, but the Q.C. bats again responded, tying the game up on a Darryl Collins single against Miguel Medrano in the bottom half.
Despite going down in order to Caden Monke in a scoreless eighth, Dayton retook the lead in the top of the ninth with a two-out rally, loading the bases with three-straight runners, then jumping up 7-6 when Monke walked Tyler Callihan with the bases loaded. But again, Quad Cities' offense retied the score, pushing the game to extra innings with an RBI single from Wilson.
Charlie Neuweiler took over for Quad Cities in the top of the tenth and, although not allowing a base runner, gave up the Dragon's go-ahead run with a wild pitch. This time though, the Bandits failed to respond in the bottom half, with Braxton Roxby stranding both the tying and winning runs aboard to give Dayton its first win of the week.
With the one unearned run allowed, Neuweiler (6-7) took the loss for the Bandits after 1.0 inning of relief, while Roxby (2-0) pitched a scoreless 1.2 and struck out three en route to the win.
Quad Cities will look for its third win of the series tomorrow night at Modern Woodmen Park, as Rylan Kaufman (1-6, 5.35) gets the ball against the Dragons' Christian Roa (4-3, 3.86). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm.
