Bandits Draft Five Players, Acquire Weiss at 2014 NLL Draft

TORONTO (Sept. 22, 2014) --- The Buffalo Bandits selected five players and completed two trades Monday night at the NLL draft in Toronto, highlighted by a three-player, four-pick trade at the end of the first round.

The Bandits entered the draft without a first-round pick, but sent Rory Smith, Eric Penney and the 12th overall pick to Vancouver for Nick Weiss, the 9th overall pick, a 2015 second-round pick, and a 2018 first-round pick.

A second-round pick (17th overall) in 2013, Weiss played in 15 games as a rookie for Vancouver last season and had 13 points (7+6) and 86 loose balls.

With the 9th overall pick, the Bandits selected Brandon Goodwin from Adelphi University. He scored 26 points (19+7) in 17 games for the Panthers last season.

Buffalo took Matthew Bennett at No. 14 overall with the first of two second-round draft picks. In 83 games from 2010-2014 for the Brampton Excelsiors of the Ontario Jr. B Lacrosse League, Bennett scored 89 points (28+61).

Four picks later, the Bandits selected Tyler Ferreira at No. 18 overall from the Brampton Excelsiors of the Ontario Jr. A Lacrosse League. Ferreira put up 33 points (14+19) over 19 games last season.

With the 24th overall pick, the Bandits drafted Jordan Dance from the Orangeville Northmen, where he scored 43 points (18+25) in 17 games in 2014.

The Bandits rounded out their night by acquiring the 49th overall pick from New England in exchange for a 2016 sixth-round pick. With the pick, Buffalo took Mike Melnychenko, who led Chestnut Hill College with 57 points (43+14) in 13 games last year.
