The St. Louis Bandits beat the Springfield Jr.Blues 6-3 in their season home opener. Point-leader Trent Frey(Jon Gaffney, Nick Curry) scored in the first period with Jon Gaffney(Austin Coldwell)and Trent Frey(Petrukhno, Gaffney), again, scoring in the second period. Entering the third period within one goal, the Blues couldn't come back as the Bandits scored an insurance goal at 2:07 and an empty-netter after Springfield pulled it's goaltender for the extra attacker. Matt Wichorek started in goal for the blues but was pulled after the fifth goal in favor of C.J. Groh, who stopped all seven shots he faced.
"I thought we gave up a few soft goals and didn't capitalize on some opportunities", said Springfield head coach Chris Wyler. " Groh will get the start tonight and, hopefully, we can break out of this losing streak". The Blues have lost six straight and travel to Chesterfield, Missouri to face the Bandits again Saturday night with a third game on Sunday afternoon.
