ALPENA, MI - The Mahoning Valley Phantoms gave up two goals in the last minute of the second period and could not recover, losing Saturday night to the Alpena IceDiggers by a final score of 4-3.

After Doug Clifford's third goal of the weekend gave the Phantoms a 3-2 lead with 48 seconds left in the second, Alpena got goals from Josh Nicol and Sam Cheraso with 24 and 12 seconds left, respectively, to take the lead.

The Phantoms created multiple scoring chances in the third period but could never get one past Nick Graves, who picked up his first win of the season for the IceDiggers. The Phantoms' best chance came with two minutes left when Alex Lippincott rang a wrist shot off the post.
