Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Geneva, IL - The Kane County Cougars hit three home runs and, despite being outhit by the Quad Cities River Bandits, won the opening game of a four-game set 5-2 at Northwestern Medicine Field on Thursday evening.
The Cougars took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when Jazz Chisholm went to the opposite field for his 12th home run of the season to put Kane County in front 1-0. Another solo home run, this time off the bat of Eudy Ramos, doubled the Cougars advantage to 2-0 in the third inning.
Kane County added to their advantage when Bandits starting pitcher Yohan Ramirez was called for a balk with a runner on third base in the bottom of the fourth. The margin swelled to 5-0 when Ernie De La Trinidad blasted his eighth home run of the season off of reliever Dariel Aquino in the fifth inning.
The River Bandits made a late push with an RBI single by Seth Beer in the eighth inning and an RBI double by Ruben Castro in the ninth inning. However, runners were left on the corners in the eighth and Castro was thrown out trying to stretch his double into a triple in the ninth to end the game with the Bandits trailing 5-2.
The River Bandits finished with 10 hits. Miguelangel Sierra was responsible for three of them, with Beer, Castro, and Logan Mattix adding a pair each.
Ramirez worked 4.0 innings on the hill and allowed three runs on three hits and two home runs. He walked three and recorded five strikeouts.
