Balanced Drive Overcome BayHawks

March 15, 2018 - NBA G League (G League)
Grand Rapids Drive News Release

GRAND RAPIDS - Six Drive players scored at least 14 points as the Grand Rapids Drive (25-21) picked up the win against the Erie BayHawks (26-21) at home on Thursday night. 112-102 was the final as the Drive got a crucial win over a division leader with the playoffs approaching.

Kay Felder led the Drive in scoring for the third game in a row, as his 19 points and eight assists were both team highs. Landry Nnoko continued his streak of double-doubles with 17 points and 14 rebounds and Derek Willis also provided 17 points and 10 boards. KJ McDaniels chipped in 16 points and nine rebounds as well, and Reggie Hearn scored 15 points.

Jeremy Evans had a great inside-outside performance in defeat for Erie, scoring 25 points with 10 rebounds. Evans went 5-of-10 from three-point range but also managed to record six offensive rebounds. Josh Magette added 15 points and 10 assists and Jeremy Hollowell scored 14 with six rebounds for the BayHawks.

The teams went through 10 lead changes and five ties in a back-and-forth battle. Leading by one at halftime, Grand Rapids scored eight unanswered points nearing the end of the third quarter. The BayHawks were able to cut that lead down to three points or less three times, but could not muster enough of a surge as the Drive never trailed after that eight-point run.

Both teams relied on the long ball to help their offensive efficiency, as the two teams combined to hit 33 three-pointers, and the BayHawks stayed in the game by hitting 18 of them despite the Drive out-rebounding them 49-39 and shooting 49 percent from the floor. The Drive held Erie to just 40 percent shooting overall, but one of the reasons for them allowing the BayHawks back into the game several time was Grand Rapids' trouble with turnovers, committing 21 of them.

The Drive will finish out a three-game homestand against the Westchester Knicks on Saturday night for their next action, while the BayHawks stay on the road against Fort Wayne the same day.
