February 27, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Austin Spurs News Release
Austin, TX - Through a combined team effort with five Springfield players in double figures, the Jam were able to notch a road victory beating Austin 107-96 Saturday night at the Austin Convention Center.
Both teams were led by #44, as Austin's Dwayne Jones earned another double-double with 23 points and 19 boards. Springfield's Brian Butch also notched a double-double leading the team with 13 rebounds and adding 22 points.
In their first home game in over three weeks, the Toros came out strong in the first quarter to take the lead at the end of the quarter, 22-17. The Jam struggled to connect shooting 7-for-18 in the quarter.
Luke Bonner debuted with the Toros converting on two-for-two from beyond the arc in the second quarter. Toros' Alonzo Gee was a perfect 3-for-3 in the quarter and led the team with 10 points in the quarter. However the effort from the two was not enough to hold the lead throughout the quarter, as Jam's Jeremy Wise, was able to tie the game at 40 with 3:39 left in the second quarter. Wise and Brian Butch had a combined 22 points for Springfield in the second quarter.
After three lead changes in the third quarter, the Toros came out on top to end it, 79-74. Dwayne Jones had 14 points, and helped the Toros go on an 11-4 run midway through the quarter. Wise had 11 of his 27 game leading points in the third.
Both teams chose a run and gun offense in the fourth quarter, with the Jam outscoring the Toros 33-17. Reece Gaines and Wise were perfect at the line (9-9) for the Jam. The Toros went cold with more than three minutes left in the game, unable to convert on the four attempts from downtown.
Three other Toros players scored in double figures: Alonzo Gee (21), Curtis Jerrells (17), and Eddie Basden (16). Jerrells led all with seven assists.
Bakersfield (10-25) will travel to McAllen, Texas to face the Rio Grande Valley Vipers Sunday. The Toros (21-12) will host the Springfield Armor tomorrow afternoon at the Austin Convention Center. Tickets are available for the 5:00 p.m. game at the door.
