Baker's Heroics Win it for Rivermen, 2-1
December 21, 2002 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Peoria Rivermen News Release
One second was enough time for Peoria's Trevor Baker.
With less than a second remaining in regulation, Baker slipped the puck past Baton Rouge Kingfish goalie Jeff Blair as the Rivermen win 2-1 in front of 4270 screaming fans at Carver Arena.
After Baton Rouge dominated the Rivermen on Fridayt night 3-1, it appeared as if the Kingfish would do the same tonight. Kingfish forward Trevor Demmans put Baton Rouge up 1-0 with a goal at 17:54 in the first period.
But the rest of the game belonged to Peoria. The Rivermen's Brendan Brooks tied the game midway through the third period with his seventh goal of the season on a behind-the-back pass from Baker . Baker would be heard from again in dramatic fashion with almost no time remaining on the clock. With just two second left in the game, the Rivermen's Ryan Finnerty won a face off deep in the Baton Rouge zone, Darren Clark fired it at the night and Baker tipped it in as the final buzzer sounded.
Peoria improves to 17-9-2, and the Kingfish fall to 10-18-4.
