
Griffins Head into Holidays with 1-0 Win

CLEVELAND, OH - The Grand Rapids Griffins (17-7-4-2) defeated the Cleveland Barons (11-17-2-2) 1-0 in their last game before the Christmas holiday on Saturday afternoon at Gund Arena.
Michel Picard's goal with eight tenths of one second remaining in the first period was the lone goal of the afternoon. Tim Skarperud and Danny Groulx each picked up an assist on the goal. Picard tied Mark Mowers for the team lead with 13 goals.
Marc Lamothe made 30 saves for his third shutout of the season. Vesa Toskala stopped 34 shots in a losing effort.
The Griffins go into the Christmas break having won four straight games. The Griffins are in first place of the Western Conference's Central Division with 40 points.
The Griffins will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 26 when they host their division rival Cincinnati Mighty Ducks.
